Utah Half Marathon FAQs

Do I need to ride the bus to the starting line?

Yes. There is not available parking at the starting line.

What time do I need to get on the bus?

The first bus will leave the Provo Towne Centre at 3:45 A.M. Participants will need to be on the last bus no later than 4:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 12, 2010.

Is this Utah half marathon a USATF certified course?

Yes. The Utah Half Marathon is USATF sanctioned and certified.

Where are the aid stations?

The aid stations will be at miles: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13.1. Each aid station will have both water and Powerade. Oranges and bananas will be provided at miles 2, 8, and 11. The starting area and mile 6 will be equipped with Hammer Gel.

Where are good locations to cheer?

There are many good locations to cheer along University Avenue in Provo, but we strongly discourage people from standing anywhere in the Canyon as you will likely put yourself, and or others in danger. The canyon traffic is still open, but the two Provo bound lanes will be condensed to one for our race, so please do not cause issues for other drivers in the canyon.

Is there a massage and medical tent at the finish?

Yes. There will be several massage tables to work athletes’ stiff muscles. There is a medical tent with trained professionals.

Is the course chip timed?

Yes. Half Marathon runners will be timed with chips, and must keep their chip on their shoe to have an official time. Failure to return chips will result in a $25 fee.

Are there any discounts to hotels for half marathon runners?

Yes. The La Quinta Inn, Sleep Inn, and Colony Inn have agreed to accommodate our runners at a discounted rate. Click here for details.

What is the time limit for completing this Utah Half Marathon?

Our Utah half marathon enjoys a comfortable 4 hour time limit.

Are wheelchairs allowed?

Based upon feedback from last year we will only have a handcycle division for the full marathon with no wheelchair divisions in any of the distances. We may change this policy in the future, but this is our current position for the 2010 marathon. We welcome athletes who would like to participate in either a wheelchair or handcycle for the half marathon, but there are only awards for the handcycle in the full marathon.

Are the miles marked?

Yes. However they are the marathon miles. This means that your first marker will be mile 14, but you will see that after only running.9 miles, because your race begins 13.1 miles into the marathon course.

What parts of Utah County does the half marathon go through?

The marathon goes through Provo, Orem, and county property. See the half marathon map for more information.

Is there a place I can drop off my sweats during the half marathon?

Yes. At the starting line a truck will take items back to the finish. We highly recommend you put your items in a bag with your race number on it. This will help sort your items at the finish area. We will also have a clothing drop off located at the aid station at mile 4 (marathon mile marker 17).

Where is packet pick-up, and when?

Packet pickup is at the Provo Towne Centre Mall from Noon to 9 P.M. on Friday, June 11, 2010.

What is the average temperature on race day?

The average low is 53 and the average high is 85. We start the race at 5:30 A.M. This allows even athletes that take 6 hours to finish by 11:30 before the highest temperature of the day.
