Recently the country has experienced a running boom, and there are constantly new half marathons in Utah popping up, offering runners a large variety of choice in scenery and terrain. Here we will discuss the 2017 Utah half marathons with some of their defining characteristics all on one page.
Utah Half Marathons as Part of Full Marathon Events
Utah Valley Half Marathon (June)
One of the fastest Utah half Marathons, and One of the most beautiful courses. Provo Canyon views and waterfall are some of the many reasons this is the fastest growing of all Utah half marathons. This race features a gentle downhill that will aid your speed, but offer a quick recovery after the race. The distribution of downhill is unique with the first and second half of the course offering nearly identical net drops. There is a net drop of 750 ft. over the course of the half marathon. This race has about 2500 half marathon participants.

Sojo Half Marathon (October)
This is one of the newest Utah Half Marathons. This course experiences roughly 1100 feet of net elevation drop. Unlike most other Utah Half Marathons this half marathon finishes on grass.

Bear Lake Half Marathon (June)
Utah half marathons are almost always on Saturdays, and this race is not different, but what is different is this organization puts on another Bear Lake Marathon that is on the Idaho side of Bear Lake the day before (Friday).

Salt Lake City Half Marathon (April)
One of the largest Utah half marathons. This race has nearly four times as many participants in the half marathon as they have for their full marathon. The course has a net drop of 541′.

Ogden Half Marathon (May)
This is one of the only Utah half marathons that has more participants in the full marathon than they do in the half marathon. Half marathons in Utah often run through a scenic canyon, and this race has that benefit. It offers one of the faster courses, and is well organized. The course has a net drop of 691 feet.

Big Cottonwood Half Marathon (April)
This is one of the only Utah half marathon to have a female be the overall winner in 2010. This must have been a fun experience for Anna Judd to beat all the men.

Little Grand Canyon Half Marathon (September)
This Utah half marathon educates you about the Bear Lake area with signs provided by CEU Prehistoric Museum. This race takes good care of the athletes with Gu and hydration along the route.

This Utah half marathon enjoys both flat city streets, and the beautiful Antelope Island. The course has very little change in elevation, so it is an easier course that won’t beat up your legs.

Utah Half Marathons Not Connected to Full Marathons
Hobble Creek Half Marathon (August)
Of all Utah half marathons this is arguably the very fastest. It features spectacular views of Hobble Creek Canyon, and is has a great elevation change that is sure to keep your legs moving. This race sells out in about a day, so pay close attention to the registration date if you want to run this Utah half marathon.

Top of Utah Half Marathon (August)
This half marathon in Utah is a training race for both the St. George Marathon & Top of Utah marathon. Many people get ready for a marathon in the fall, and this late summer half marathon is a great training tool. This Utah half marathon experiences a net drop of 1081 ft.

Canyonlands Half Marathon (August)
As one of the largest and oldest half marathons in Utah this race is a hit. Many people feel as though it is a fast course coming down the canyon, but deceptively the race actually only finishes 50 feet lower than it starts.

The Other Half Marathon (October)
This is not your typical half marathon in Utah. The race is on a Sunday, and they serve beer at the finish. This race is put on by the same group that is in charge of the Canyonlands Half Marathon.

Pink Half Marathon (October)
Utah’s only all women half Marathon. This race is expected to have tremendous growth, and is reasonably priced. This half marathon offers fantastic organization, and great scenery. This race may be exclusive to women runners, but men are welcome to come help volunteer.

St. George Half Marathon (January)
This is one of the older half Utah half marathons. This may not be the fastest of Utah half marathon courses, but you will get more sleep since you won’t have to ride a bus to the start. The half marathon starts and finishes in nearly the exact same location, so it is convenient for family to see you start and finish.

Bryce Canyon Half Marathon (July)
This is one of the faster half marathons in Utah a net loss in elevation of 1852. Another unique characteristic is the high altitude that race starts at (7,652 feet).

Provo Halloween Half Marathon (October)
This is one of the most unique half marathons in Utah. Runners will experience tremendous elevation loss from the start to the finish. This race also is a fun opportunity to run 13.1 miles in a costume with your friends. This race has experienced fast growth, and has a net loss in elevation of 1852.

Provo River Half Marathon (August)
This is one of the more beautiful Utah half marathons. The race starts up South Fork Canyon within Provo Canyon, and continues down the Provo River trail leading runners to the Riverwoods Shopping Center. One unique offering from this race is the pancake breakfast at the finish.

Dogtown Half Marathon (February)
Utah half marathons are seldom in the winter months, but this new half marathon is at the end of February offering a great training run for either the spring marathons.

Provo City Half Marathon (May)
This Utah Half Marathon began in April on the first year, and has subsequently been moved to May to offer better climate conditions for runners. This course offers terrain that is entirely paved, but alternates between roadway and the Provo River Trail.

Hobbler Half Marathon (July)
This Utah half Marathon is strangely similar to the “Hobble Creek Half Marathon”. The two races are not put on by the same organization. There is just a similar name and similar course. This race starts in the same canyon as Hobble creek, but up the left fork, whereas the “Hobble Creek Half Marathon” starts in the right fork. This Utah half marathon finishes in Springville while the “Hobble Creek Half Marathon” finishes in Mapleton.

Flat Out Half Marathon (September)
This half marathon in Utah runs along the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats. This is one of the flattest courses in America, and offers an experience running on one of the most protected areas by the US BLM.

This Utah half marathon takes runners from Diamond Valley on SR 18 and finishes up at Snow Canyon High School. The course is primarily downhill and is fast. It is also a challenging route.

This Utah half marathon begins in Emigration Canyon and like the State Capitol Half Marathon this race also finishes at the Utah State Capital building. The course features a predominantly downhill route.

This half marathon in Utah begins at the Village Green Park in Suncrest located at the top of Traverse Ridge Drive in Draper. This is a very scenic route, but is not a very fast course.
